Company picnics in Bytom in the shade of Silesian beech woods

When a company wants to put the focus on movement and sport, we point it towards Sport Dolina in the Sucha Gora district. This is over thirty hectares of a former dolomite mine, surrounded by forest, with a quad track, a bike-hire point, scenic trails and on-site catering. The neighbouring Segiet nature reserve and the Blachowka quarry give a setting that cannot be moved elsewhere - an active family day with field elements works wonderfully here, because the terrain is vast, has its own car park and offers natural obstacles for team games.

For smaller, more intimate get-togethers we suggest Grota Park, also in Sucha Gora, created on the grounds of a former calamine mine. Two ponds, Grota and Galman, with landscaped banks, a playground and plenty of shaded nooks make a peaceful spot for a family picnic by the water, where entertainment and the grill do not compete with a large stage. The Tiele-Winckler Park in Miechowice, with nearly fourteen hectares of century-old beech woodland, in turn offers a large, shaded space - in the July heat the trees themselves serve as a canopy for the stage, activity and catering zones.

We adapt the outdoor logistics to the specific site, because each of Bytom's parks sets different demands. In Kachel Park we use the ready amphitheatre shell and the existing network of avenues, so we mainly bring in the sound system, activity zones and catering rather than a whole stage. At Sport Dolina in Sucha Gora the former dolomite quarry has no permanent stage infrastructure, so we bring our own platforms, generator and canopies - while drawing on the existing quad track and bike hire instead of hauling in attractions.

By the ponds in Grota Park, where the banks are narrow and shaded, we scale down to light equipment: an intimate sound system, the grill, entertainment by the playground. In the Tiele-Winckler Park we plan the layout so the beech canopies replace a roof over the catering zone, with cables run along the main avenue without disturbing the old trees. We base the educational programme on the nature trail in Repty or workshops at the Bytom Botanical Garden, and the sightseeing element - an orienteering march or a photo session among the beeches - on the Segiet reserve and Srebrna Gora.
