Company picnics Gliwice in the shadow of the Gliwice Cechownia
Company picnics in Gliwice have a character all of their own, because the backdrop to the open air here is often the city's industrial heritage. The most recognisable address is the Cechownia, the revitalised grounds of a former mine with a distinctive tower rising above the greenery. It is the only fully commercial event space in the area with a ready back-up: independent zones, access to utilities, sanitary facilities, rooms adapted as cloakrooms and changing areas, pitches and an ample car park. The post-industrial setting with the mining tower in frame gives open-air galas, concerts and banquets a scenography written into the post-industrial identity of Gliwice.
In the very centre the natural choice remains Frederic Chopin Park, a historic, tree-lined site with proven logistics for large city events such as the Gliwice Days. Sweeping lawns, mature trees, fountains and a water playground stand in for ready-made infrastructure that the Gliwice Days have used for years for rows of stalls and a stage. The neighbouring attractions are an asset too: the Municipal Palm House, with thousands of plants, reptiles and exotic birds across several themed pavilions, is a magnet for families with children during a family day.
From the Gliwice commons to lakeside beaches: room for any scale
When an event is to grow to a truly large scale, we reach for the Gliwice commons, the most open, sweeping grassy space in the city, where the absence of paths and trees lets us route the technical lines and the entry of heavy stage equipment freely. Smaller and medium gatherings we run in Chrobry Park, one of the loveliest corners of Gliwice with a view of the city, benches, tables and spots that lend themselves to barbecuing. The concert part we are happy to move to the municipal amphitheatre on Przedwiosnie Street, where a ready stage and auditorium await an artistic programme.
The most spectacular waterside grounds lie just outside the city. Lake Plawniowice, known as the Silesian Masuria, tempts with a sandy beach in Niewiesz, equipment hire, windsurfing schools and the neighbouring neo-Gothic palace. The beaches at Rzeczyce on Lake Dzierzno Duze and the picturesque reservoir in Kamieniec, the nearest body of water to the city, are equally inviting for picnics with activities on the water.
Family days by the water and active team-building close to the city
A family day with children works best by the water. The Forest Bathing Site in the Kopernik district is a sprawling green area beside the woods with pools, a paddling area, a long slide, beach volleyball courts, a roofed barbecue spot and catering, a full package of attractions for the youngest (the site has been earmarked for thorough modernisation). The aquatic activities are rounded out by Marina Gliwice on Portowa Street: cruises aboard the passenger boats Foxtrot and Dziewanna for larger groups, motorboat and kayak hire, and themed cruises along the Gliwice Canal.
For the active and team-building part Gliwice offers an equally rich choice. The Labedy Forest, a sprawling municipal woodland within the city limits, provides surfaced cycling and walking trails for outings, orienteering and field games. Adrenaline is supplied by the Lina Adrena rope park by the Czechowice lake and the paintball centre on Marcina Street. We combine these activities with a picnic without travelling beyond the immediate area, building an open-air event with real momentum.
Frequently asked
For the largest workforces we recommend the Gliwice commons, with room for a stage and sweeping activity zones, and for events with an industrial character the Cechownia, with a ready back-up on the grounds of a former mine. In the centre Frederic Chopin Park performs superbly, with proven logistics for large city events.
The most options come in the season from late spring to early autumn, when the waterside sites such as the Forest Bathing Site, Lake Plawniowice and Marina Gliwice with its Gliwice Canal cruises are operating. Early autumn can be ideal for a picnic combined with cycling trips through the Labedy Forest.
For families the Municipal Palm House in Chopin Park with its exotic flora and fauna works wonderfully, along with the pools and slide at the Forest Bathing Site and the Lina Adrena rope park by the Czechowice lake. A waterside family day is enriched by kayaks and cruises from Marina Gliwice.
